February 22 to 28 is National Rare Disease Week, which culminates with the global observance of Rare Disease Day on the 28th.  In celebration, the Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders, Inc. (PSOD), in partnership with SM Cares, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of SM Prime Holdings., Inc., will hold a “Worry-Free Day” activity on February 23 for some patients and their families, at the SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City.  The advocacy event aims to raise awareness about rare disorders and increase public support for Filipinos living with these conditions.

With the theme, “Show Your Rare, Show You Care,” this celebration will highlight the need to bridge gaps in social acceptance, as well as coordinating medical, social and support services to meet the challenges that people with rare disorders and their families face every day.

The Worry-Free Day will bring children affected by rare disorders and their families to a day of fun and excitement at SM. The fun activities including ice skating, bowling, and dinner, hopes to give these children, together with their families, a memorable mall experience. SM Cares has been a partner of PSOD in raising awareness since 2011.

“Aside from spreading awareness, we also hope to make the children enjoy the offers of an SM Mall, and give them an experience they will never forget. While they spend the day having a good time, we know that their parents will forever treasure these priceless memories,” said Engr. Bien Mateo, SVP for Mall Operations and Program Director for SM Cares Program on PWD’s.
