Hundreds of elementary and high school students from both public and private schools are expected to attend a special screening of the Green Film Festival this April 18 at the SM Mall of Asia in celebration of Earth Day. This year’s special screening for Earth Day will feature acclaimed film, “Racing Extinction”, a documentary that shows man’s role in the global crisis of mass extinction. Earth Day is on April 22.
SM Cares partnered with the U.S. Embassy, SM Cinema, SM Mall of Asia and the American Film Showcase to bring the Green Film Festival (GFF) to the Filipino youth in time for the celebration of Earth Day. GFF is a series of free screening of educational films and documentaries highlighting climate change and the current state of our environment, as well as resource and energy conservation, sustainability and disaster risk reduction.
SM has been helping promote disaster risk reduction and resiliency and this year’s Earth Day through the Green Film Festival, SM reaches out to the youth in the communities where SM is present, “to ignite their passion in caring for the environment.”
Several screenings have also been scheduled in other SM malls nationwide in the coming months. These screenings are in partnership with the Department of Environment and National Resources.
SM’s other environmental projects include the Trash to Cash Recycling market which happens every first Friday and Saturday of the month across all SM Supermalls; water treatment facilities in all malls, solar panel rooftops, among many others.
